Day 1: "I'm FUCKING PREGNANT"

We started the day bright and early with a meeting with Eric Sauter, the department ATD, in the Arena. For our "load in," we repainted the stage to its usual black and went to furniture stock to help the other O-Show carry in their furniture. Once we were released from the Arena, we headed to the Performance Hangar, which is a rehearsal space located between Aidekman Arts Center and the chemistry building.

We started by playing the counting game, which is played over and over in the play itself in addition to being a 3Ps rehearsal favorite. In this game, the group has to count as high as they can, but if two people say any of the numbers at the same time they need to start again at zero. The actors stood in a circle, closed their eyes, and slowly counted to 104!!!! This was a ridiculously high number to count to, and everyone was amazed that they had lasted that long. Later on in the day the game was repeated, with all the actors lying on the floor around the room. This time they were able to count to more reasonable numbers: 10, then 14,  then 2, ending with an awesome run to 51. It was amazing to see how connected the actor seemed while counting together.

Ryan had the actors play all sorts of games, including "MACHINE." In this game, one actor starts making a repetitive motion and then one by one all of the other actors join in with another motion creating a group "machine."

The actors also played a game called "Family Portrait," in which the actors ran a small scene prompted by Ryan. At a point during the scene, Ryan would stop everything and take a picture with his phone. This led to some interesting looks with actors taking on many different roles. At one point, Zoe was prompted to announce that she was pregnant, but none of the actors heard her because they were all doing there own parts of the scene. After not being heard for a while she exclaimed, "I'm FUCKING PREGNANT!" at which point, Ryan took his portrait of the family.

Zoe holds her child(?) in the corner after exclaiming, "i'm FUCKING PREGNANT"
Another photo from the end of a scene, after Ryan shouted, "Oh Shit, There's a Camera"

Later on Ryan got everyone into character and handed over the reigns to Zoe, who plays Marty, the teacher of the acting class. She then led a bunch of games with the characters lasting almost twenty minutes.

Later today, Ryan will work one on one with each of the characters, in hour and a half blocks.

YAYYYY O-SHOW!!

Welcome!

Hello lovely readers! Welcome to the O-Show blog! This is Hannah, the ASM for 3Ps' Orientation Show, Circle Mirror Transformation. This blog is where you can follow the action as we rapidly rehearse, design, and produce this show for the freshmen during the hazy crazy days of orientation.

What is an O-Show, you may ask? What is 3Ps, for that matter? Formally known as Pen, Paint & Pretzels, "3Ps" is the umbrella organization for all student-run theatre-- in addition to putting up a number of productions every semester, 3Ps includes all kinds of smaller groups from mimes to comedy to children's theatre. The O-Show is an event put on every year to give the incoming freshmen a taste of what theatre at Tufts is like, and likewise, this blog serves to give you a glimpse at what things are like behind the scenes.

We'll begin with a brief introduction-- presenting your 2012 3Ps O-Show p-staff and cast:
